Costa Rica Blog 2018

Monday, March 19th
Our 7th Graders had a busy weekend in Costa Rica! While we prepared for another snow storm, they enjoyed sky walks, hiking, and zip lining in the rain forest. One half of the group visited Turtle Island and had some time to relax on Tambor Beach, pictured below. The other half of the 7th Grade class visited butterfly gardens and their pen pals at Monteverde Friends School. Everyone had time to work on homework and enjoy delicious food, like ice cream from one of Sandra's favorite places!

Friday, March 16th
As you can see below, our 7th Graders have been busy volunteering at Sembrando Agua in Lourdes. Students planted canes that will eventually take root and help prevent erosion on mountainsides. Students also had fun with pen pals, swimming and even hopping into an impromptu Conga line during dance class. Later students took some time to work on homework with pen pals.

Thursday, March 15th
Today our 7th Grade students explored botanical gardens and practiced some traditional Costa Rican art, painting the oxcart ("Caretta") wheels that are common in the region. Students also visited schools with their pen pals and tackled homework assignments. Everyone also had time to practice for the talent show, a beloved part of the 7th Graders' time in Costa Rica.

Wednesday, March 14
After a day of travels, our 7th Graders spent their first day in Costa Rica swimming and eating some delicious, traditional Costa Rican food. After some time with pen pals (including empanada making) and their families, our students were ready for a good night's sleep!

Monday, March 12
This morning our entire school community gathered for a special, send off assembly for our 7th Graders and chaperones. Each classroom made cards for students and chaperones, then presented them at today's gathering. 8th Graders and previous chaperones shared their advice and everyone then sang a song, wishing our travelers well. Safe travels, friends!
