Pre-K

The Greene Street Friends School Pre-Kindergarten program is warm and nurturing, and provides children a rich introduction into a learning environment guided by Quaker principles. The interdisciplinary curriculum focuses on experiential, thematic learning, much of which occurs through structured play and hands-on projects. To be eligible, children must be 4 years old by September 1.

Both Pre-K classrooms offer a wide variety of activity areas including manipulatives, dramatic play, computer, art, blocks and books. Children discover language arts through stories, letters, and beginning phonics. They develop math skills such as number sense, sorting, classifying, and measuring. They discover more about themselves and the world through theme-based activities in social studies and science.

Additionally, Pre-K students enjoy weekly classes in Art, Computers, Library, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and American Sign Language.

An equal emphasis is placed on each child’s social and emotional growth. They learn how to express their feelings and ideas, how to listen and to wait, and how to resolve conflicts peacefully.

What our parents say:

“We were attracted to Greene Street’s mission of diversity and spirituality and the manner in which these values are integrated so authentically into the culture and life of the school.”

“My son has blossomed, matured, and has grown in self confidence. He has a great belief in himself.”

“The curriculum is so broad and sophisticated. My child comes home counting to 10 in Japanese, describing to me what friction is and quoting Helen Keller.”
