Berna Can (Art Teacher, Pre-K to 6th)

Berna (she/her) loves teaching Art to students in grades PK through 6. She earned her BFA from Mimar Sinan Fine Art University in Istanbul, Turkey, her hometown, and an MFA degree from Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York. Berna has been active in the Greene Street Friends community since 2013. She has gotten creative with GSFS kids as a teaching associate in kindergarten, and as an after-school program associate and enrichment club teacher. For the past several summers she has taught art and pottery at Six Senses Clay Studio summer camp in Mount Airy (now called Outlaw Arts).

 

Whether teaching, learning, or playing -- or a delicious combination of all three -- Berna loves sharing her passion for creativity with children. When not at school, she can be found in her art studio drawing, painting, and working in mixed media. Her artwork has been shown at venues including Woodmere Art Museum, iMPeRFeCT Gallery,and Mt.Airy Contemporary in Philadelphia, and Site: Brooklyn gallery in New York. She also loves reading, listening to music and playing the piano, playing chess, walking in nature, and playing with her cat. She lives in Germantown with her husband.
