Student Support Services

Student Support Services Team includes the Learning Specialist, School Counselor, the Director of Admission, and the Associate Head of School. We believe that the success of a student's educational experience can be maximized by using teaching techniques that closely match the student's learning modalities. The Student Support Program is designed to provide support and enrichment of the individual student's learning using a collaborative process involving families, teachers, and/or other experts to identify and address children's learning needs individually and in the classroom. The School Counselor will lead our community in proactive educational efforts which focus on topics like healthy decision making, self-advocacy, good communication, transitions, and resiliency.

Social and Emotional Support
Greene Street’s School Counselor will provide our students, parents, and teachers with partnership, support, instruction, and education in meeting the social and emotional needs of our students.  These needs may be associated with the intrinsic challenges of childhood and school. The needs may also be associated with learning to function healthily in a diverse world.  Consistent with the values of Friends education, the School Counselor will help community members move to a greater degree of connectedness with the problems and challenges they are working out, and seek long-term solutions to build resilient and self-reliant people. The School Counselor will lead our community in proactive educational efforts which focus on healthy decision making, self-advocacy, good communication, transitions, resiliency, and more.

Tutoring
Greene Street Friends School has a robust, fee-based tutoring program which is individualized. Families who are interested in tutoring services for remediation or enrichment are encouraged to contact our Learning Specialist. In some instances, tutoring will be recommended or required by the school to ensure a student’s academic progress. For specific referrals, contact the Associate Head or the Learning Specialist.

Elwyn
Free educational services are provided for students at Greene Street Friends School through Elwyn, a non-profit organization that works as a contractor for the School District to provide support services for students. At Greene Street, Elwyn currently provides an Educational Psychologist one day per week, a school counselor one day per week, a reading and math tutor for two half days per week, and a speech pathologist one half-day per week. Families may request Elwyn services through our Learning Specialist, and faculty will, on occasion, recommend Elwyn services to families for students in their care. All inquiries about these services should be directed to our Learning Specialist.
