Rising Stars, formerly EDP, at Greene Street Friends School provides a safe and secure environment filled with various further learning opportunities beyond the school day. Students participate in creative and engaging programming which include Move It, a daily physical component, Enrichment, an academic and arts based program with courses ranging from cooking, sewing, and sculpture to foreign language, weird science and puppetry as well as Wind Down, a period of quiet activities and homework.
All activities take place in a space that is organized, inviting, and promotes multi-grade connections among our students. Activities are based on an overall theme that changes every four to six weeks. A few of this year’s themes include; The Great Space Odyssey, Food Glorious Food, Our Wide, Whirling Wonderful World, and Bring in the Noise. In addition, Rising Stars also offers Homework Haven, a quiet, supervised area for those students in need of a little extra homework time or a tutoring connection.

Rising Stars is an extension of the school day, even on days when there are no classes. Students are expected to conduct themselves as they would during the school day. In addition to standard classroom rules, our expectation is that all students will treat each other with respect. Our energetic staff actively engages students guiding them toward new experiences, helping them develop new skills, fostering creativity and fun as well as holding them to the standards of our Greene Street community where stewardship, peace, respect, humility, friendship, and honesty are taught and reinforced.
Rising Stars is an Eco-friendly, healthy living zone. Students will be expected to bring a clearly labeled, reusable cup and plate for use with snacks. No candy or gum will be permitted at Rising Stars and provided snacks will consist of healthy, whole grain items as well as fresh fruit or vegetables. Computer time will be limited for those not using the internet for homework purposes and use of handheld video games and cell phone gaming will not be permitted.
