Ten years after graduating from Greene Street Friends, Emma
Giloth ’04 has started her own business in Senegal. She notes, “I am working
with an association of Senegalese youth to produce and retail coconut
products.” The business includes fresh coconuts for sale as well as coconut oil
for cooking and beauty products.
Emma credits her Greene Street Friends science teacher, Andy
Jickling, with nurturing her love and appreciation of the environment. She
says, “He taught me about how important the environment is.” One aspect of her
business is to plant trees along the coast to block out winds that lead to
desertification and to contribute to deforestation.
