Fall Fair Festivities Coming Soon!

Scrarecrow making and pumpkin painting, a haunted house, live music, great food and creative kids’ activities, including mosaic making, are in store on Sunday, October 25, 2009, to benefit a great cause, Greene Street Friends School’s Costa Rica Exchange Program. "Traveling to a foreign country provides students with a deeper exposure to its culture, food, music and language,” says Exchange Program Coordinator and PK-to-Grade 8 Spanish teacher Sandra Rodriguez. She adds, "Experiencing another culture firsthand is proven to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of one's own culture, as well."

Each spring, the seventh grade visits Costa Rica for a 10-day cultural and language immersion experience. Because of Greene Street Friends School’s commitment to serving students from a wide socio-economic spectrum, this year’s class is having several fundraisers to ensure all 21 students can participate, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Fall Fair festivities will take place from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm on the Greene Street Friends School’s playground; enter from Armat Street or from School House Lane. Friends and neighbors are welcome to join in the fun of guessing games, carnival games, face painting, and craft making, not to mention the ever-fun dunk tank! “This year’s fair will have something for everyone of every age to enjoy—we are especially excited about featuring a live band this year, "The Mystery Tacos," who will be joined by several accomplished musicians from the Greene Street Community!,” says parent Shantih Brando.

Visitors can take off the chill with a cup of hot cocoa or smooth Costa Rican coffee. Fair trade chocolate and coffee beans will be for sale, along with hot dogs, hamburgers, and home-baked items. Craft vendors will have their wares for sale.
