Fifth Grade Mystery Reading Challenge

In February, the fifth grade was faced with a challenge: read 80 mystery books in three weeks. The stakes were high. If they could accomplish their mission, their reward would be a mystery party. Never a class to back down from a challenge, they read their 80 books, and then some, in just over two weeks.

On February 17th, the class was rewarded with a Wild West-themed hunt for Goldie Rushmore’s missing gold. Each student was assigned an “ancestor” to research. By piecing together some clues and racing around campus on face-paced scavenger hunt, the kids found the gold!

The fifth graders will continue to read mystery books and learn to use mystery authors as mentors before writing their own tales of suspense. And there may just be a few more puzzles lurking around the classroom waiting to be solved…
