Summer Renovations Focus on Lower School Building

This summer the interior of the Lower School building received a full make-over. The project represents the final phase of work funded by the School's $1.3 million Landmark of Learning Campaign. Last summer the electrical and lighting systems in the building were revamped and air conditioning was added.

In early June the School rented 800 cardboard boxes and 11 Pods (mobile storage units) to store classroom materials and furniture. By mid-June the Pods had been removed from campus and contractors began removing linoleum, refinishing existing wood floors, and in a few areas, laying new hardwood floors. As soon as the floors were dry, painters set to work. By early August all that remained was finishing carpentry and the mounting of bulletin boards.

Even under the best of circumstances, there are only six weeks in the summer when work can take place before classrooms need to be set up again, and Business Manager Teri Buda made every effort to ensure contractors stayed on schedule.

Upon seeing the renovations visitors note the soothing colors and the warm glow of the wood floors, a combination of original Carolina heart pine and maple.

In addition to the Lower School renovations, the dining room floor in the Meetinghouse was replaced and a new piece of playground equipment was installed. All that's missing are the bright happy faces of our students!
