Room ParentsRoom Parents Room parents are the leaders of their child’s class and a critical part of the PA Organizing Team. The primary role of the Room Parents is to build relationships with and among the families in their child’s class.
What the Room Parents Do: Hold a Fall Class Potluck (see directions below.) Organize and run a game at the Fall Fair. Coordinate with the Parent’s Association and help find volunteers for school events. Help the Parent’s Association fundraise. Encourage class participation in the Annual Giving campaign. Support the Teachers by volunteering to help with holiday celebrations, International Day, Color Day, school trips and projects. Have one other class get-together during the year. Optional—collect for a class gift at the winter break, and/or for the end of the school year.
Class Potluck Tips: Just Do It, Do It Early, Keep it Simple! People appreciate the chance to get together, parents and kids Date: Class vote or host's choice, September, October or early November work best. Where: If no one volunteers to host it at their house, consider parks. Venues to try include: • Allen's Lane playground • Walnut Lane/ Rittenhouse Town • Fort Washington State Park • Fairmount Park check possible locations Time: Anytime, consider lunch, dinner or midway in between Food: Organized sign-up in classroom or potluck. Tip: Be sure to ask a couple people to bring paper goods, garbage bags, and a few drinks Invitations: Send the details home via e-mail and/or classroom backpacks. |
