Chrissie Schoenhard (3rd Grade Lead Teacher)
lower school
Chrissie grew up in Narberth, PA, and went to public school in Lower Merion. After studying Fine Art at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and at SACI in Florence, Chrissie decided to go back to school to become a teacher. She attended West Chester University in Pennsylvania to get her PreK- 4 Early Education Teaching Certification. Five years later, she has had time to develop and practice many teaching skills important to her like patience, empathy, flexibility, organization, and clear communication. She has taught 2nd grade in the School District of Philadelphia, substitute taught in suburban districts, worked as an autistic support aid and a reading support paraprofessional, and most recently taught 1st and 2nd grade (combined) for two years at a charter school in south east Philadelphia. She was drawn to Greene Street Friends School after hearing how it models and teaches Quaker values including stewardship, leadership, acceptance, and non-violence. She wanted to teach at a school that embraces creativity and forward thinking; a school that is built around practicing kindness. Chrissie is so excited to be a new member of the Greene Street Friends community, and even more excited about teaching 3rd grade! She hopes to help all of her students to become lifelong learners, readers and writers, and develop social and emotional skills through creative, hands-on, engaging learning. Chrissie loves spending time with her rescue dog Violet, rescue cats Sheldon and Marbles, and her backyard ducks and hens! She still paints, and is training for a half marathon.
