Josh Goodstein serves primarily as the middle school science teacher at Greene Street Friends. In addition to teaching sixth through eighth grade science, he is also the coordinator of seventh and eighth grade climate and culture and a seventh/eighth grade advisor. Josh graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and is a product of Quaker school education himself, having attended Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC. Josh came to Greene Street in 2012; he previously taught science at an independent school outside of Washington, DC and at a turnaround public school in Baltimore. Josh and his wife have two sons; Noah is 2.5 and Levi began GSFS in PK in 2019. Josh is an avid sports fan and has adopted the Eagles as his team but sticks with his Orioles as well. Josh has a true passion for science and loves being in the classroom, though sometimes he is "absent" and replaced by a dead scientist who looks surprisingly like him or by his science-rapping alter-ego, DJ Goodies. Recently, he has received some acclaim for the Greene Street Friends science program, having been named as a national finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching as well as a semifinalist for the Shell Science Teaching Award.
