Celia Flores-Rivera (7th & 8th Grade Social Studies)

middle school

Celia is excited to be a part of the Greene Street Friends School community. Originally from New York City, she started her undergraduate studies at Temple University. When she returned to New York, she completed her undergraduate degree in Government at John Jay College, The City University of New York. Afterwards, she pursued and received her Masters of Art and Masters of Education in Deaf Education and Social Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. Due to her love for Philly, she moved back with her husband to the Northwest section of Philadelphia and began her teaching career as Summer Deaf Education teacher in 2010. Throughout the years, she has developed an extensive teaching career especially in Social Studies as well as proudly supported her 3 children as a stay at home mom.

Whether it’s discussing the Latino and African American experience and genealogy with her former high school students or supporting the learning of her own children with frequent library trips, Celia has a passion for teaching and making lasting impressions on student lives. She especially loves to see when student’s or her own children's faces light up because they figured out something on their own AND want to show what they learned. Furthermore, Celia loves the community she has developed living in Philly and hopes to continue to encourage that in her classroom.
