Nita's 2nd Grade Celebrates 100% Parent Participation in Annual Giving

In celebration of Nita's class reaching 100% parent participation in Annual Giving,
parent and environmental educator at Briar Bush Nature Center Mark Fallon visited the 2nd grade on Thursday. He brought a few friends: a chinchilla, an Eastern box turtle, an Eastern screech owl, and a milk snake.

The 2nd grade is currently learning about the Iditarod, Alaska, and cold places. To tie this visit into the curriculum, Mark explained how each animal survives in cold weather as well as other animals that hibernate, adapt, or migrate.

Students were able to touch the animals (except for the owl because she is not domesticated). After the presentation, Nita's class enjoyed snacking on animal crackers and discussing their highlights of the visit, especially touching the chinchilla since they learned it is the softest animal in the world.
