Speak your Truth at the "Truth on Equality" Booth during MLK Day of Service

Our 8th grade will run a booth at MLK Day documenting our community "truths about equality." The students will film community members sharing a thought, poem, statement or story on equality as they see it. The booth will be open in the library throughout MLK day. The inspiration and idea comes from a traveling installation called "The Truth Booth" by the Cause Collective, based on artist Hank Willis Thomas' concept. In class, 8th grade students will create documentary films using clips from the interviews. We hope everyone will bring their truth to add to the mix. Here are some 8th grade examples of thoughts on equality:

You can believe anything,
in equality, in peace
but you need to act on
what you believe
so it can become

true?

We build walls so we don’t have to see inequalities.

My truth
truth is to be who you are
truth is to make decisions
they are not wrong
nor
right
they are

Equality is something everyone deserves but the truth is it is a privilege. There are people who fight for equality of everyone but there are the ones that are outspoken more than others. Gender equality, racial equality, sexual orientation equality are the most well known. But there are so many other groups of people that need equality too, but they aren’t getting it.
