Lower School Town Meeting Makes Resolutions for the New Year

Representatives from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 4 met on Tuesday to discuss the new year. They discussed resolutions for themselves as individuals and learners as well as for the entire school community.
The queries discussed were:
1. Many people make New Year's resolutions or promises of things they want to do or ways they want to be better in the new year. Have you made any new year's resolutions? Are there new things you want to learn how to do or ways you want to be better in this new year?
2. How has our school year been so far? What can our school do better in this new year? How can we make our community even better than it already is?
3. What fun events can we plan for our school in the new year? What would you like to do?

Students were very thoughtful in their responses and brainstormed a list of ways that they can work together to make GSFS even better in 2016. Their suggestions included:

  • Having lower school clean up days
  • Helping to keep the sandbox cleaner
  • Expanding Color Day to include an all-school lunch
  • Finding green space for just Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students
  • Having a place to do art projects during recess
  • Having a place for people to go and just be quiet
  • Reintroducing After School Program clubs

Pre-Kindergarten teacher Roe Giordano said this was her favorite meeting of the year because the students were so engaged and had so many great ideas that can actually be implemented at GSFS. She will be continuing this conversation with student volunteers and working to see how they can put the list into action.
