Students Take a Walk for a Cause

A Walk for a Cause, an annual GSFS tradition, that began as the Mini AIDS Walk, is an opportunity for students of all ages to come together in support of a cause that matters to them.
In response to student feedback that they wanted to spend more time with their partners and to increase GSFS's "one-school" feeling, this year's cause was community.
To kick-off the walk, partners met in their classroom spending time reflecting on community and getting to know each other. Younger students and their partners drew pictures about them, their families, their favorite activities and foods, and their hopes and dreams for the future. Third and fourth grade students worked on Venn diagrams with their partners to find activities and interests they had in common.

Partners took three laps around campus: one with conversation prompts and icebreakers ("What will you be for Halloween this year?"), one in silence, and one while singing "Come Join the Circle" together.
