GSFS Celebrates Pi Day

Happy 3.14! Since Pi Day falls on Saturday, the GSFS community celebrated with a morning of math-themed activities with their partners on Friday.

To begin the morning, Nita's 2nd grade class sang a song about pi during the Lower School assembly, reciting 26 digits of pi!

Partner classes gathered together in the morning for special activities, including:
  •  - Pre-Kindergarten and 6th grade searched for as many circles as they could find around campus;
  • - Kindergarten and 8th grade colored circle mandalas, played the monster number squeeze game, and pinned the radius on the circle;
  • - 1st and 4th grades made circle art together;
  • - 2nd grade watched videos about pi and measured the circumference and radius of cookies with yarn; and
  • - 3rd and 5th grades completed a pi-themed worksheet in which they had to measure the circumference and radius of circles.

After completing the activities, students enjoyed a round treat: cookies!

Additionally, Science teacher Josh challenged his students: if they, working in groups of 5, could remember more digits of pi than he can, their prize would be to throw a pie in his face. However, he knows over 190 digits...
