Theatre Arts

The Theatre Arts program at Greene Street Friends seeks to build in students a deeper love and appreciation for the performing arts, create novel opportunities for them to apply the traditional learnings from their classes, and experience teamwork in ways only possible from being a member of a cast. We produce three shows a year, two of which are largely student-written. We hope to see you in our audience soon!

2024-25 Season
Once Upon a Mattress
Filled with heart, humor, and classic showtunes, Once Upon a Mattress is an uproarious update of the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea." Princess Fred seeks to win the heart of Prince Dauntless, but his mother, Queen Aggravain, has different ideas. Will the Queen get her way or will Princess Fred and her friends live happily ever after?

Lower School Play
Third- and fourth-grade students explore the theme of friendship by bringing three beloved picture books to life on stage.

The Mirror-Up Project
In Hamlet, Shakespeare writes that the purpose of art is to "hold the mirror up to nature." Our middle school students take him at his word by adapting his classic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, updating it to take place in a modern middle school setting. Throughout the spring, students will read the play, engage in writing workshops to create their own script, and then produce their show as a staged reading.
