Ben Hennesy - 1st Grade Teaching Associate

Ben Hennesy (he/him) is excited to be joining the Greene Street Friends School community as a Teaching Associate. He is a published writer and theatre educator who has been helping kids grow and develop through play-based and collaborative learning both here in Philly and in schools across the country through work in his theatre company.

As a strong believer in student-centered learning, the transformative power of collaboration, and community-oriented schooling, Ben is thrilled to be bringing his experience working in arts education to support GSFS's mission to develop tomorrow's leaders and peacemakers. Ben is coming to teaching as a second career after a decade of working in a corporate environment and independent arts education and three and a half years working the best job he's ever had: stay-at-home dad. He has a BA in English Writing from Eastern University and a MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. He is currently pursuing an MS in Curriculum Development with Eastern University and is anticipated to graduate in Winter of 2026.  

Outside of the classroom, you can usually find him hiking, biking, or collecting mushrooms in the Wissahickon with his wife, three-year-old daughter, and fluffy white pup.
