Congratulations to the Class of 2016!

Please join us in congratulating the Class of 2016 and welcoming these twenty-two graduates to the Greene Street Friends School Alumni Association! On Friday, June 10, the entire school community came together to celebrate their many accomplishments at Greene Street Friends in an afternoon ceremony.

In keeping with GSFS tradition, each graduate entered the Meetinghouse accompanied by a 7th grade student. Each student spoke, with many reflecting on their time at Greene Street Friends and looking forward toward high school. Said Tyler ’16, “With my experiences here at this school, I have become the person I am today. Every single person in the room has impacted my life in one way or another, whether that was putting up with me for years as my teacher, or helping through the great times and the bad ones. I would like to thank you for letting me be the person I am today because I would never want to be any different.”

Many students reminisced about lessons taught by teachers and class trips (especially to Costa Rica!), they also focused on the relationships they built with each other and the way that Greene Street Friends feels like home.

Mason ’16 shared, “I feel that Greene Street has put me on the road to a good future and that I will use lessons I learned while at GSFS. In my time here I have made many friends and I have made bonds that will last past the ending of school. My class helped me learn a lot of things and Greene Street taught me many important things: to always try your hardest, how to use a semicolon, and many other things that I will bring with me throughout my life.”

“I’ve learned countless things about my world, my community, my class and myself. Greene Street is my past, but it will also be my future,” stated Grace J. ’16.

Maisha Yetunde Lee Pinckney ’91 gave the induction into the Alumni Association. She emphasized what being a GSFS alumna means to her and why alumni who learn in such a supportive, diverse setting go on to become strong leaders. “A Greene Street Friends School education has also meant knowing how to learn and use information for the greater good of my community and myself. With this experience in hand, we are able to become essential leaders and crucial members of the local and global community. Most importantly, GSFS showed me the value of tolerance, diversity, and simplicity and how to shine your own light in the world.”
