Over 100 people – alumni, parents of alumni, past and present
teachers, and current students with their families – gathered on the porch of
the Meetinghouse to share their good wishes for Nita on a beautiful afternoon.
Head of School Ed Marshall honored Nita’s many roles at Greene Street Friends
which, including her time as a parent, span 30 years: a beloved 2nd
grade teacher, an assistant in Pre-K, Grade 4 and Grade 5, a GSFS parent and
grandparent, and the former faculty representative to the School Committee. She
has also served as the middle school receptionist and one summer, she oversaw the
renovations happening on campus.
Parents, students and alumni all mentioned her warmth, her
quiet command of the classroom, her intuitive understanding of children and ways
of making sure all students were included, and her ability to try new things.
Nita has been a friend, a mentor, and an anchor for so many
people at Greene Street Friends and we wish her the very best. Rumor has it
that she may return to campus as a substitute teacher now and then...
