To celebrate both 3rd grade classes reaching 100% parent participation in Annual Giving this year, students traveled back in time to the Colonial Era. As part of their "The Choice is Yours" project, they created and presented scrapbooks telling the story of how they traveled to the New World and what their lives in Colonial America are like.
Students chose characters that were escaping religious persecution from England, who were brought to the colonies as a slave, or who simply were looking for better lives and adventures. They explained their jobs as weavers and blacksmiths and what it was like to live in Jamestown, Pennsylvania, and New England at the time. Some also described interactions with Native Americans.
The scrapbooks included maps, letters, pictures, and keepsake items to help illustrate the stories and share more of the day-to-day life of Colonial Americans.
After presenting their work, the students enjoyed tasting foods from that time period including chicken, cornbread, and a sweet.
A special shout-out to the fantastic 3rd grade Room Captains, Deborah Stern and Julie Diana, for their energy and leadership this year!
