After several weeks of studying the Caribbean and taking turns presenting on different islands, the 6th grade wrapped up its social studies unit with a Caribbean Carnivale!
6th grade teacher Becky says, "It was a fantastic culmination of our unit, complete with handmade crafts, costumes, authentic food, and moko jumbie dancers." Becky and fellow teacher Laura noted that they - and the students - were very excited to bring their studies off the page and to life in the classroom.
Each student helped plan and run the festivities by joining a committee, including food, costumes, art, music, and games. Students enjoyed traditional delicacies including chicken and rice, Jamaican ginger cake, and coconut drinks, then played games, made crafts, and learned hula.
