7th Grade Puts Physics Lessons to the Test During Annual Egg Drop

Last Friday, the 7th grade took part in a time-honored tradition at Greene Street Friends School: the egg drop. Students were split into groups of two or three to create a device to safely guide a raw egg from the top of the Armat Street Building to the ground.

Of the 10 eggs launched, 8 landed safely, 1 broke when it landed, and 1 likely landed in one piece, but cracked while removing its packaging for inspection.

In addition to having a lot of fun, science teacher Josh tied the activity into lessons on physics. The timing of the egg drop was moved to last week to coincide with learning about potential energy, kinetic energy, and energy efficiency as well as terminal velocity and Newton's laws.
