On Monday, the twenty-two members of the
Class of 2016 gathered together in front of Hargroves House for a special
celebration kicking off the twenty-five day countdown to their Greene Street
Friends School graduation.
After enjoying Chipotle for lunch, students
heard from Director of Development Maani Waldor and Head of School Ed Marshall
about the Greene Street Friends School alumni community. They highlighted the
connections among graduates across the generations and the many ways that
alumni can continue to remain involved beyond graduation.
This tradition was started by Emily
Harmar in 2005 to help the 8th grade begin the transition from being
students to being alumni. Nine of the soon-to-be graduates – more than one
third of the class! – have been at GSFS since Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten,
nearly their entire lives.
“The luncheon was good because I
realized that this was going to be my last days at Greene Street Friends,” said
Nile ’16. “It felt good to spend it was teachers and classmates. The time
together was really special.”
Check back next month for a recap of
graduation and a list of high school choices for the Class of 2016!
