The entire School gathered together on Thursday morning to say goodbye and good luck to our graduating 8th grade class.
The 7th grade feted the graduating class by singing "I'll Be There For You" by the Rembrandts while the 8th grade performed "The Best of Times" by Styx. Additionally, 8th grade student Dylan sang "Home" from The Wiz and classmates Lily, Sophie, and Corin performed their final Spanish project, a song about their experience at GSFS.
Pre-Kindergarten teacher Kathie spoke on behalf of the faculty, offering the graduates advice to make music out of their lives - literally and figuratively - and giving them a "gift" of an original rap about the class's journey from pre-K to graduation.
Members of the Class of 2014, Jacob, Grace, and Leah, announced this year's class gift: plants for Greene Street Friends' new corner property at School House Lane and Greene Street in order to continue making our campus more green.
Additionally, awards were given out to the following Middle School students:
- Students who played sports for all three seasons this year;
- Clerks from each grade as well as the 8th grade TORCH leaders;
- Members of WINGS, Greene Street Friends' community service group; and
- 8th grade students who were in the musical or Chorus and Quaker notes for all four years of Middle School.
Each 8th grade student received a personalized award from their advisor, highlighting their strengths as students, leaders, musicians, athletes, and members of the GSFS community.
The assembly ended with the Class of 2015 moving into the Meetinghouse benches where the 8th grade sits, symbolizing the end of the this year and the transition to their new leadership roles for the coming school year.
