Partners!

This morning was the kick-off event for the Partners program! The Partners program pairs students across grades in order to retain Greene Street's small community feeling. It's also a wonderful opportunity for students in 4th through 8th grade to enhance their leadership skills as they act as mentors to younger students.

The rainy weather couldn't stop students from having a blast with their partners! The activities focused on getting to know each other as well as celebrating the all-school theme of equality. Partners discussed things that they have in common and what makes them unique.

- Roe's Pre-Kindergarten and Becky's 6th grade played "Just Like Me" with each set of partners saying a statement ("I like ice cream") and everyone who agrees jumps up to say "Just like me!"
- Kathie's Pre-Kindergarten and Laura's 6th grade played in the classroom with blocks and paint. Some partners painted things that represented friendship and equality.
- Kindergarten and 8th Grade partners stayed inside reading books together.
- Lori's 1st Grade and Avery's 4th Grade interviewed each other, asking questions about their partners' ages and favorite foods.
- Raven's 1st Grade and Maggie' 4th Grade created Venn diagrams illustrating things they have in common and things that are different about each other.
- 2nd and 7th grade students drew portraits of their partners onto a necklace. At the end of the class, they gave their partners their completed works of art.
- Anna's 3rd Grade and Kate's 5th Grade made brochures about their partners, including pictures, information about favorite foods, and what the students did over the summer.
- Erica's 3rd Grade and Tishna's 5th Grade created lists of their similarities (love of tacos, favorite colors, favorite class at school) and their differences (ages, favorite sports).
