8th Grade Examines World War I Through Poetry, Song, and Art

After learning about World War I, the 8th grade delved into a deeper understanding of the impact of The Great War during history class on Thursday. As a group, they read Wilfred Owen's Poem "Dolce Et Decorum Est" and sang along with Marty on guitar to Eric Bogle's folk songs "No Man's Land" and "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda."

Students had to identify and reflect on the imagery used in each piece. After a lively discussion, each 8th grader created a visual representation that showed a scene described or represented the overall mood of the song or poem.
