All School Assembly Celebrates This Year's Theme: Equality

On Friday morning, the entire school came together to celebrate a new year and our all-school theme: equality!

Led by Ryan Kimmet, Katherine Vidoni, and Marty Foley, the school sang "This Land is Your Land" and "One Love" as a group.

Students shared what equality means to them, including treating others the way you want to be treated and being kind to everyone. 8th graders Ryley and Anne said that "the time to act against inequality is as soon as we become aware of it" and encouraged their fellow students to stand against inequality at GSFS and in the greater world.

Melody Regino led everyone in a game called "Just Like Me" in which students share and celebrate their similarities and differences. Melody would read a statement ("I like to eat donuts" and "I can't wait to go on the Costa Rica Exchange" were two very popular ones) and anyone who agreed stood up and yelled "just like me!" New members of the faculty and staff introduced themselves and read "The Other Side" by Jacqueline Woodson.
