Welcome from Kareem Rogers, Lower School Dean

Welcome to the lower school

Dear Lower School Families

Thank you for the warm welcome that I have received from so many of you.  It has been a joy to start the school year off meeting so many amazing families, staff and teachers here at GSFS.  I am excited to start my 23rd year in education as the new Lower School Dean.  My journey in education started in Jersey City, NJ and now here with you all.  As my summer with my family comes to a close and my time to grill lessens, I am excited to finally meet our students.,

I am excited and eagerly anticipating the start to a new school year.  Although this year is starting differently than any we have ever seen, it will still be a phenomenal year.  The Lower School team will continue to build relationships, community and teach Quaker values through innovative thinking, planning and the execution of best teaching practices.

Our Prek-2 students will primarily use the learning platform Seasaw.  A few teachers may also integrate some of the following app and programs: Epic Books, Raz-Kids, Mystery Doug, Tynker and several others.  Our 3rd & 4th grades will be engaged in some of those platforms and also be introduced to Google Classrooms and engaged through ‘Choice Boards’, Flipgrid and other platforms.

The changes and challenges that are before us give us an opportunity to grow in ways that we might not have considered before.  This is an opportunity to extend grace, empathy, understanding and teamwork.  Even in a virtual environment we know that the good in each child will shine bright.

I look forward to meeting everyone soon.
