1st Grade Classes Partner with Wister Elem. for One Book, Two Schools Event

On Thursday, the first grades made a meaningful connection with the teachers and first grader students at John Wister Elementary with our One Book, Two Schools event.

The classes walked over to Wister carrying with them the books they collected to donate to the classrooms at Wister. They played an icebreaker game called, Just Like Me, through which they discovered things the students have in common and ways they are different.

Everyone read the book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a true story about how a boy living in Malawi who decided to build a windmill so his village could have electricity and water. After a book talk, all the students made pinwheels and shared a snack. When reflecting on the event at the end of the day, first graders said, "It was so nice to make new friends!" and "I hope we can see them again!" Lori's and Raven's classes will invite the Wister kids to visit Greene Street Friends School for some outdoor games before the end of the school year.
