5th Grade Presents The Million Dollar Project

In this math exercise, students had to create a non-profit with an annual budget of exactly $1 million, including one-time expenses, ongoing monthly expenses, personnel, and advertising. Students chose from a broad range of issues to address including homelessness, animal care, legal aid, and community after-school programs.

On Tuesday, the students pitched their ideas to teachers and staff, complete with accurate spreadsheets and pie charts. The 5th grade students had to use their math skills by practicing calculating the budget using place value, decimals, and fractions.
