Friday

6th Grade Students Channel Their Favorite Authors

Students in the 5th and 6th grades were honored to hear from J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkein, Jerry Spinelli, Beverly Cleary, and more on Friday morning...or at least their classmates dressed up as these famous authors!

Every 6th grade student chose one of their favorite authors for a research project and oral presentation. They shared about the authors' books, careers, awards, personal lives, and inspirations from the point of view of the authors. Some even dressed up like the author or a beloved character! There was a wide range of authors chosen from all over the world, different eras, and a variety of genres.

The 5th grade quietly listened and asked questions (a popular one was wondering how many languages the authors' books had been translated into). In addition to being a wonderful audience, having the 5th grade present helps them get excited for their upcoming 6th grade year when they will get to do this same project.

6th grade students also brought a treat that their author loved or originates from the author's hometown to enjoy after the presentations.
