6th Grade Students Create Three-Dimensional Cell Models

On Tuesday morning, 6th grade students presented their three-dimensional cells. Based on their study of cells and DNA in class and using a list of organelles provided by science teacher Josh, students created cells out of creative materials from clay and shoeboxes to jello and cake.

The list of organelles included cytoplasm, ribosomes, and the Golgi apparatus.

Students enjoyed the project and sharing their models, but they were particularly thrilled to be able to eat the edible cells at the end of class!

This fall, 6th grade students have been studying the cell as the basic building block of the human body and all living things. This will lead into learning about genetics later in the school year.
