Thursday

It's a Caribbean Carnival!

On Thursday afternoon, 6th grade students in Becky's and Laura's classes celebrated the culmination of their unit on the Caribbean with a carnival! Students brought in traditional foods, decorated the classrooms, and played games while listening to Caribbean music.

Throughout the unit, students have learned about the Caribbean, beginning with the colonial history of the region to modern day. They each chose one country to research in-depth and present on to classmates using a poster, Prezi, or Google slideshow. Presentations looked more at each country's history, climate, economy, and culture.

Highlights of the celebration included the amazing foods (rice and beans, plantains, cassava, and lots of delicious sweets) and games (feed the shark, decorating headbands, and pineapple racing).
