Thursday

Los Ticos Estan Aqui

On Tuesday seven students and one chaperone from Costa Rica arrived in Philadelphia for two weeks of living and learning with their 8th grade GSFS pen pals.

The Costa Rican students are keeping busy visiting every classroom, exploring Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, DC and celebrating Thanksgiving with their host families.

A few highlights from classroom visits include:

  • Reading picture books - in English and in Spanish - with the Pre-Kindergarten.
  • Conducting science experiments with 2P examining how animals adapt to survive in different climates. They even got to try on blubber and fur to see if that made chilly, wet conditions more bearable.
  • Creating t-charts comparing Philadelphia and Naranjo using the iPads with the students in Kate's 5th grade class. Students discussed sports, food, school, climate, and entertainment in their respective cities.
  • Playing a trivia game about Costa Rica with Becky's sixth grade class.
