Please join us for a celebration of Nita Hopkins on Wednesday, May 13 from 5:15pm to 6:15pm on the Meetinghouse Porch!
Two years ago, at the celebration of her 25 years of teaching at Greene Street Friends, Marcy Abhau, mother of Anna Eliot '03, titled her tribute, "To Wonderful Nita with Love." We couldn't think of a better way to describe our upcoming retirement celebration for this very special teacher!
In her 27 years of working at Greene Street Friends, second grade teacher Nita Hopkins has had many roles: Greene Street parent, Pre-Kindergarten assistant, fifth grade assistant, Greene Street grandparent, faculty representative to the School Committee, and summer renovation project manager. These are just a few of the ways Nita has made a difference at Greene Street Friends.
Just like their teacher does, Nita's students show great enthusiasm for learning (ask any second grader about the Iditarod or Reading Buddies and you will get an earful!) and school spirit! Nita "gets" kids and is willing to try new ways to meet their needs, like the sitting balls that many students in her classroom use.
In her time at GSFS she has touched many lives. Here's what one alumna said: "I have very fond memories of Nita. She was someone who was very approachable - whether for extra help on a lesson or for a hug....She truly made Greene Street a special place!"
The entire GSFS community is invited! We hope you will join us for cake, juice, and many more memorable tributes. If you can't attend and would like to send a message for Nita, please email Emily Harmar at eharmar@greenestreetfriends.org.
