The Parents Association invites families with students in every grade to participate in a special workshop presentation on Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. Jonathan Singer, PhD, LCSW, a Greene Street Friends parent, has recently released a book titled Suicide in Schools: A Practitioner’s Guide to Multi-Level Prevention, Assessment, Intervention and Postvention and he will lead an important discussion on recognizing signs of stress and suicide prevention.
With the unfortunate recent event with the young student from the Shipley School, we thought it would be helpful to our school community to have someone come talk to parents and give advice and information about suicide and how to prevent it and recognize any signs of it in our children. GSFS is not as pressurized as some of our peer schools, but all students and families feel stress from time to time and having strategies to overcome school, social or family obstacles is always a good thing. Given the circumstances of this tragic event, we feel this is an opportunity to learn and engage our school community about this topic.
